VESAK FESTIVAL IN SRI LANKA

 The VESAK FESTIVAL which falls on May 15 this year is one of the holiest 

festivals celebrated in Sri Lanka as it marks the birth enlightenment and demise

Where is the VESAK FESTIVAL


VESAK is celebrated as a religious and a cultural Festival in Sri Lanka on the full moon of the

lunar month of VESAK  (usually in the Gregorian month of May) for about one week and this

Festival is often celebrated by people of different religions in Sri Lanka.


                                                                



What is the best thing about VESAK.


The most remarkable fact about the celebration is that it was on this very day that Lord 

Buddha was born attained enlightenment and it was on the same VESAK day that Buddha

Who started VESAK Day


According to the first of many petitions to the government to make VESAK day a 

public holiday was from the Singapore Buddhist Association in October 1947 . Both the

Buddhist Theravada and Mahayana communities then united to form a joint VESAK

                               The food and Buddhists partake in any number of Asian dishes on VESAK

but consume no meat a symbol of their compassion for all living things. They also visit 

monasteries give to charity hang lanterns decorate with flowers and listen to lessons
offered by monks.



Why do we bath Buddha VESAL DAY.


The Bathing of the Buddha often takes place . Water is poured over the shoulders

of statues of the Buddha as a reminder of the need to purify the heart and mind.

Offerings are made to the Songhai and the temples and may be laid on the altar 



as a sign of respect for the Buddha and his teachings.

One of the holiest days in Buddhism VESAKA Bache (also known internationally 

as VESAK)  marks three major events in the life of Siddhartha Gautama the 

Lord Buddha According to Buddhist scripture his birth enlightenment and death
